MATCH TENSION TO OPERATING CONDITIONS
1. ADJUST TRACK TENSION ON-SITE
Make tension adjustments on the job site. The shop might have properly tensioned the track, but it could become too tight when packed with mud.
2.TEST PACKING CONDITIONS
To match track tension with the specific packing conditions of the job site, run your machine for a short while on the job site. Make the necessary adjustments after this evaluation.
3. MAKE FREQUENT ADJUSTMENTS
Weather changes can change the packing conditions of the job site throughout the day. Tension adjustments made during these changes can help reduce track wear and costs.
4. DO NOT OPERATE YOUR MACHINE WITH FROZEN TRACKS
If you try to use power to force the tracks to move, you could destroy them or damage your final drive.

Track Adjuster failures
Function of a track adjuster assy is not only used to push the idler wheel forward to increase tension / reduce slack or droop but also to protect the undercarriage from damage when the tractor contact a large solid object i.e. rocks, trees, deep holes, broken ground, stumps etc. Shock loadings are absorbed on impact by the heavy recoil spring which is preloaded to between 50 to +100 tons, depending machine size.
When a track adjuster fails the undercarriage will start to suffer an excessive wear condition that will continue until something breaks, exacerbating the problem, adding downtime and expense to the repair bill. It is advisable to carry our remedial repairs as soon as practical.
